Getting into good fitness habits at home

Not everyone wants to trek down to the nearest gym when they are trying to get fit and lose weight.  In fact, many people are more comfortable exercising in their own home, at least to begin with.  Here are some ideas to help you get into good habits when trying to lose weight at home.

  1. Get your kit ready!  Get your exercise clothes out ready before you go to bed, so they are the first things you see when you get up.  You are more likely to put them on and do your exercise!
  2. Set an alarm.  Get up early and do your workout first thing in the morning.  This way, it is not only over and done with first thing, but you will be more energised throughout the day!
  3. Go simple.  Find a simple routine you can perform for a week.  If you can manage to do a little every day, you won’t get bored or burnt out too soon.  Once you have done 1 week, do another.  Before you know it, it will be a month!
  4. Measure yourself – instead of focussing on weight as your only goal, measure yourself in inches round your chest, tummy, hips, arms and legs.  This will give you meaningful goals to work towards each week and month.  You could also set fitness goals such as being able to do a certain number of sit ups or push ups!
